I have been a dedicated Occupational Therapist (OT) for 26 years, with a Master of Occupational Therapy degree and a B.A. in Communication. I hold both state licensure and national certification in occupational therapy. Over the course of my career, I've worked in various settings, but eleven years ago, I found my true calling: helping individuals diagnosed with dementia live their best lives.
My passion for dementia care led me to become a Dementia Capable Care Specialist and Certified Instructor through the Crisis Prevention Institute. I now train healthcare professionals, from office staff to nurses, on how to support care partners—those involved in caring for people with dementia—by promoting independence and minimizing challenging behaviors.
I’ve had the privilege of working directly with hundreds of individuals at all stages of dementia, as well as with their families and care partners. Through this experience, I’ve gained a deep understanding of the need for better education and support for those caring for their loved ones. My mission is to empower care partners with the knowledge and resources they need to care for themselves, so they can provide the best possible care to those they love.
Can more than one person join the consultation?
Yes. After scheduling your consultation, you will receive a Zoom link that you can share with friends or family who would like to participate.
Who is considered a caregiver?
Caregivers come in all shapes and sizes: daughters, neighbors, spouses, etc. If you are providing care or companionship to someone with dementia, I look forward to being of help.
What is not covered in consultations?
While my expertise is in dementia care, I am not able to diagnose dementia or any other medical condition, evaluate the individual with dementia, provide any occupational therapy treatment, or bill insurance.
I'm not sure if you can help with my specific situation. How can I contact you?
Please send me an email! If you have a special circumstance or concern that you would like to ensure I can address, I would love to discuss it with you. You can email me at MaryBeth@dementiaconsulting.org
